Serbia is hosting the World GPAI Summit 2024, which is being held in Belgrade on December 3rd and 4th. Serbia chairs the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). This chairmanship lasts for three years, with Serbia being the assistant chairman in the first and third year, while in the second year it is the main chairman.
On the first day of the Summit, a ministerial summit is organized, and on the second day, leading academics and statesmen from around the world will exchange their opinions and knowledge about artificial intelligence. Over 100 experts and 70 speakers in over 25 sessions, during two days in Belgrade, will discuss and exchange opinions on whether AI can really replace people? How to protect intellectual property in the era of digital innovation? And, perhaps most importantly, how necessary is it for young people to develop a comprehensive understanding of this technology through the education system? One of the main speakers during the second day of the GPAI Summit is prof. dr. Djordjija Petkoski.
We had a pleasure to talk to the professor Giordija Petkoski from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
– I agree that the basis of ecosystem transformation driven by artificial intelligence lies in the empowerment of individuals. This requires fostering democratized decision-making and new ways of thinking and capabilities. In this context, the role of young people is instrumental. Today, social media are heavily influenced by the motivation and expectations of young people, pointed out Professor Petkoski.
– I am excited to share with you that I will be giving a keynote speech at the upcoming OECD Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence summit on December 4 in Belgrade. I’ve published an article on LinkedIn that highlights some of the key ideas I’ll explore during my talk. I hereby invite all the readers of your portal to send their opinions and comments on LinkedIn or via e-mail, and it will be my pleasure to present your and your readers’ perspectives in the dialogue during the Summit, said Professor Petkoski for the Vojvodina live portal.
Professor Petkoski was also one of the lecturers at the first international conference on the role of artificial intelligence in the media, which was organized by the Vojvodina live portal in October last year.
The host of this prestigious event is the Government of the Republic of Serbia, with the support of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Serbia currently chairs the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI).
This is a great recognition for Serbia and its efforts in the development of artificial intelligence. President Aleksandar Vučić rated this news as “magnificent” for our country, emphasizing its importance in the global development of artificial intelligence.
GPAI is an initiative founded in 2020 at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with the aim of establishing global standards and rules for the development of artificial intelligence. The GPAI secretariat is located at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the expert centers are in Montreal and Paris, while the opening of a new center in Japan is planned.
Serbia was admitted to GPAI a little more than a year ago, as one of 29 members, which is the result of a consensus among the members. Among the most important members are the United States of America, the United Kingdom, India, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, France, Germany, Turkey and the European Union.
This presidency gives Serbia the opportunity to further improve its status in the field of artificial intelligence at the global level and to cooperate with the most prominent experts in this field.
GPAI was founded with the support of the OECD and brings together global actors with a common goal: fostering AI technologies that are beneficial to society, transparent and in line with human rights. The organization provides a platform for collaboration between governments, industry, academia and civil society.
Hosting the GPAI Summit 2024 in Belgrade confirms the trust that Serbia has gained on the international stage in the field of AI, but also its commitment to promoting ethical and responsible development of technologies.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for Serbia to demonstrate its efforts in building an AI ecosystem and contribute to global efforts to create an inclusive and sustainable future.
